New Year’s Eve is a time for many people judge where they are and where they want and what their lives must change overnight. For managers, they are supervisors, managers, executives or mid-level executives in all areas, more efficient is the key to success – for themselves and their organization. The new year is a good time to assess what work and leadership traits and those who are successful inhibition. Here are ten of them for your attention.
Start
By learning the facts at least ten on each of your “direct reports” of employees. Take time to know them better, and life in and outside the workplace makes them human and promotes respect and the relationship between you two.
Stop
Micro-management of the daily activities of your employees at all levels within the organization. Micro-management reduces the productivity, creativity and motivation. If they have clear goals and then monitor their attainment of these goals on a regular basis, most employees perform at higher levels.
Start
Have a direct face-to-face with colleagues at all levels in the organization of what is and – more importantly – what not. The key here is to listen rather than talk. But many questions are good. If you can not act on all points, question or idea, it is important to recruit more front line perspective, what happens in the organization.
Stop
Delay in writing and give performance appraisals of your employees right at the last minute. Most managers at all levels make this mistake. As a leader of people, continuous feedback, which culminates in the evaluation of overall performance and depth is essential.
Start
More open to all contributions. Do not say something is good if it’s bad. Do not say something is sufficient if it is bad. Whether a product, presentation, report, advertisement or a strategy to more honest and sincere for you and your organization to do. Too many people are generous with praise and accept lower quality work.
Stop
Interact with people by e-mail. Face-to-face is ideal. If not face-to-face and by telephone. The last resort is done via e-mail. to hide too many managers at all levels behind e-mail directly rather than with their colleagues, supervisors, employees and customers. There’s nothing like the personal contact for a leader.
Start
Encourage your staff to get more education and training. The natural instinct is to say no. “You can not afford, so they are outside the office. But more education and training makes them more efficient, more creative and more value if they are at work. Invest in your employees.
Stop
The fake “rah-rah” type of program initiatives month. They waste time, energy and budget of the organization. Understand your vision, mission and values. Be sure to quantify your goals and a clear and. Then your time on getting energized to do what to focus in order to achieve these goals.
Start
As a true “coach” by making sure that you communicate the goals clearly. You should ask each member of your team to their objectives and you should have a clear and accurate answers, even if they receive relative to their prior achievement to date. If they can not, then you have not quite clear about their goals.
Stop
Accepting the recognition for themselves. Direct any recognition for your employees. Soldiers at the front to earn medals. No pencil pushers behind the seat offices. If something good happens, make sure the right person is found – and fast.
As the “boss” is not easy. It’s really be a leader – not a manager – regardless of the title. To make an effective leader of the new year starting and stopping the behavior and actions described above provide a good starting point for messages.
